Punjab 1984, which is adjudged the Best Punjabi Film at 62nd National Awards, is all about family relationships in the backdrop of terrorism, police brutality and communal riots. The film, which takes a look at the aftermath of the riots, is the first Punjabi film on the theme to get the award.

"It was a dream project for us three, including director Anurag Singh and Diljit. Our hard work has got both commercial and critical success," he said. The film had grossed around Rs 30 crores and received huge response in Punjab and abroad.
"We dedicate the award to those mothers of Punjab who are still waiting for their sons," said film director Anurag Singh . "It has vindicated our faith that hard work gets commercial and critical success when one tries to touch a sensitive subject," he added.
